Event Details

Sciences Po Alumni Members will gather in General Assemly to approve the financial statements and elect a new Board. After the General Assembly, a cocktail reception will start at 6:30pm, followed by a speech by our keynote speaker, Mr. Philippe Camus.

Speaker
Philippe Camus was co-Chief Executive Officer of the European Aeronautic Defense & Space Company (EADS) from 2000 to 2005. He is now a Senior Managing Director at Evercore Partners, a prominent investment bank and private equity firm based in New York, as well as a co-Managing Partner of the Lagardère Group, which owns 12.5% of EADS.

Prior to his service at EADS, Mr. Camus was Chairman of the Management Board of Aerospatiale Matra. In 1982, Mr. Camus joined the senior management of Lagardère, where he was appointed Chairman and Managing Director of the Finance Committee in 1993, and Managing Partner of Lagardère in 1998. Prior to that, he spent ten years at the Caisse des Dépôts, where he was appointed Head of the Fixed Income Directorate in 1976.

Mr. Camus also serves on the Boards of Directors of Schlumberger , Crédit Agricole SA, Accor SA, the Institut d'Expertise et de Prospective of the Ecole Normale Supérieure and the Paris Europlace Association. Mr. Camus is an Economics and Finance graduate of Sciences Po., a graduate in physics of Ecole Normale Supérieure, and holds a doctorate degree in actuarial science from the Institute des Actuaires.

Topic
As NATO is undergoing a crisis of purpose, the current mission in Afghanistan appears as a test of the organization's political will and military ability to go beyond Europe and combat new threats around the globe. Philippe Camus will discuss why a strong Transatlantic Alliance remains necessary and how it can be reshaped. He will also address the political and economic implications of the recent $40 billion U.S. military contract won by Northrop/EADS over Boeing.
